An urgent notice from the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has been issued to all the corporate entities in the Emirates to move towards the nation-wide electronic invoicing system. The authorities have made it clear that administrative penalties of AED 5,000 will be imposed for every month, or part of it, for which the relevant companies delay in moving towards compliance or fail to appoint the service partner within time.

This is an integral part of the overall strategy for the digital economy of the country in order to reduce friction, increase transparency and modernize the business framework. As per the planned timeline, all the large companies earning more than AED 50 million annually must appoint an Accredited Service Provider. Meanwhile, smaller commercial establishments and firms operating below this revenue threshold are granted an extended timeline to complete their digital onboarding procedures smoothly.

The regulatory framework incorporates a phased mandatory implementation timeline to ensure seamless market transition. While voluntary onboarding commenced in mid-2026, full mandatory system integration will take legal effect from early 2027 for major commercial entities, followed by smaller market players later that year. This staggered approach provides a sufficient technical buffer for corporate IT infrastructure upgrades and internal administrative realignment.

Industry experts note that achieving readiness involves far more than casual software adoption. Organizations must actively evaluate certified providers, finalize formal contracts, execute technical system integration, and validate their accounts via the official EmaraTax digital platform. In addition to appointment delays, separate penalties apply to transactional infractions, such as failing to transmit individual electronic invoices or credit notes within legally mandated operational windows.

Corporate tax advisors strongly advise Chief Financial Officers and compliance officers to fast-track their technical readiness rather than waiting until the final hours. Proactive execution safeguards companies against accumulating heavy financial penalties and operational bottlenecks, ensuring a seamless transition as the nation edges closer to complete tax digitalization.
