A host of commercial banks operating in the United Arab Emirates are expected to commence the process of removing their emergency credit measures from their books this month in an effort to transition back into normal financial accounting procedures. UAE Central Bank Credit Relief

The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates (CBUAE) had earlier released its Financial Institution Resilience Package on a preemptive basis in order to protect the economy from the uncertainties being faced by individuals, small businesses, and commercial establishments. The relief package offered by financial institutions has been made possible through the provision of concessions without the loans being defaulted under rigid credit rating guidelines.

With the expiration of these short-term concessional measures, financial institutions have now moved on to reclassification of these loans under normal guidelines. The shift holds particular significance for Dubai’s banking landscape, where leading lenders such as Emirates NBD and Dubai Islamic Bank maintain substantial exposure to retail consumers, real estate, hospitality, and trade finance. Local banking executives indicate that balance sheets in the emirate remain robust, bolstered by strong capital adequacy ratios and resilient asset quality, which should allow financial institutions to absorb the transition smoothly.

Market analysts note that while the expiry of deferrals will bring underlying credit dynamics back into full view, Dubai’s continued economic momentum and strong corporate liquidity provide a reliable cushion against potential non-performing loan spikes. Financial institutions are actively working alongside corporate and retail clients to establish normalized, long-term restructuring plans where necessary.

The CBUAE will maintain close supervisory monitoring across all licensed financial institutions to ensure overall system stability and disciplined risk management as balance sheets reflect normalized credit operations.

To further safeguard long-term stability, regulators are encouraging banks in Dubai and across the wider country to maintain prudent provisioning practices throughout the remainder of the financial year. Industry experts anticipate that this measured transition will reinforce global investor confidence in the Emirates’ mature and highly regulated banking environment. Dubai Financial Center
