Equity benchmarks from across the Gulf Cooperation Council enjoyed a widespread rally during Wednesday trading, with the Dubai stock exchange being one of the key elements responsible for improving sentiments on the regional markets due to the improved infrastructure for energy transportation in Saudi Arabia.

The level of trading volumes across UAE trading venues showed an improvement as a result of reports confirming the re-commencement of energy transportation through the East-West Pipeline in Saudi Arabia. Reports revealed that crude oil exports through the Yanbu port in Saudi Arabia would be recommenced shortly, demonstrating an improvement in the regional supply potential. The return of flows through the pipeline contributed to the cooling of the international energy market as the Brent crude index fell below the $100 per barrel level.

Dubai’s main benchmark edged up 0.2 per cent to lead the domestic market advance, driven primarily by strong investor demand for high-yielding transport and infrastructure equities. State toll operator Salik Co. spearheaded gains on the Dubai Financial Market with a notable 2.8 per cent jump. Market analysts noted that Dubai’s diversified market structure and strong consumer-facing sector fundamentals continue to offer institutional investors a safe harbour during broader geopolitical fluctuations.

Simultaneously, active diplomatic discussions at the United Nations focused on de-escalating US-Iran tensions have significantly improved the regional market outlook. While maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains cautious, prospective progress toward reopening key shipping routes has softened geopolitical risk premiums across UAE assets.

Elsewhere in the capital, the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange successfully reversed earlier morning losses to settle 0.4 per cent higher by the close of trade. Across the wider region, Qatar’s stock index recorded a 0.3 per cent advance, supported by gains in heavyweights such as Qatar National Bank. Financial markets in Saudi Arabia remained closed for a national holiday. Outside the Gulf, Egypt’s blue-chip index slipped 1.3 per cent as institutional investors awaited an upcoming central bank interest rate decision amid persistent inflationary pressures.
